Have just returned from Berlin. Am always interested in the TR buildings that are still present there, and when I met up with an old friend who is also a dealer he sold me some great items from the Reichsluftfahrtministerium, yes bit of a mouthful, but Goerings former Air Ministry.
A great eagle wing styilised door handle, and door name plate. All documented in some good ref books in Berlin.
Anyway, I had to blanche when he showed me his photos of the 're-development ' of the building in 1999 for the current residents... Die Bundesfinanzministerium.
Ernst Udets, and FM Milsch's walnut desks were thrown out of the 3rd floor windows, smashing onto the granite paved gardens. Polish and other foreign workers were used for this task.....they had no knowledge ore indeed interest in the former contents.
A massive stone frelief Luftwaffe eagle in marble torn from the lower ground floor walls and smashed into pieces..... brings tears to the eye!
Another place to visit before its too late...Spandau prison. Although you will be told nothing is left, if you go through the main gates, past the awful supermarket, you will eventually find the garden of Rudolf Hess....complete with the acorn trees that he planted. I was chatting mit a former gardener who remembered when Hess was there.....he now is handyman for the supermarket!
Anyway, just thought it may be of interest to other enthusiasts.
