Only one stay in France after than Louis de Cazenave passed away some day ago,20 january 2008 in Brioude(Haute-Loire departement,Auvergne area).

Lazare Ponticelli, born Lazarro Ponticelli on december 7 of 1897 in the little village of Groppo Ducale near Bettola in Italy is the last french "poilu" from the great war.

It is truly sad that there are so few WWI vets left- yet remarkable at the same time that they have lived to such a grand old age. There is only one Canadian vet left- he lives in the United States at the moment.
