Most of the impressions leave a bit to be desired. Kits are pretty bad. However, as we are all aware, prior to the war, the Japanese sent many men to Germany for military training. If I remember correctly, one was even the son of the emperor. There are photographs of these men in German uniforms. Many of the Soviet POWs that were conscripted into the German Army and defended the Atlantik Wall were also of Asian descent. There were the Nissei that formed one of the most highly decorated divisions in the history of the United States Army. And, finally, since many of the former Soviet republics were Asian, there were quite a few Asians in the ranks of the Red Army. Conform and improve their impressions to the time period and it's not as bad as some might think.

I believe it was Chiang Kai Shec's son who was trained by the Germans and later fought for the Chinese Nationalists.

yes, maybe in very small numbers- but this is a bit far fetched i think -to me it still looks very weird...

KSM, check out the link that I posted. Alvin has many original photos of Asian volunteers/conscripts on his website. It's an interesting site. Jaime, thanks for straightening me out on that. I couldn't remember what leader's son had trained in Germany but knew that it was a prominent one.

Does anyone know the exact story of the Chinese soldier captured at Normandy? I think the scenario went like this - Chinese soldier fighting Japanese captured by Japanese, escapes to Russia, Russians put him in their army (slave labor) is captured by Germans and sent to work on the westwall, captured by Americans. Forest Gump of WWII.

I did have a look at it before my last comment- and i can only repeat - sure, there may have been asians in the Wehrmacht (just like coloured people- we had that thread some tim eago)- and considering how many photos there were taken in that period, if you look hard enough you'll find picture evidence for practically everything (asians, blacks, marsians, whatever) - but what i keep saying is: there were only small numbers of these persons and they were a curiosity even back then and i could bet most wehrmacht members didnt even know of them- there were certainly no units completely made up from asian nationalities which would justify such a cumulation like in that reenactor units.... i do not say that the guys should not have that hobby- they shall have their fun- i just say it looks weird to me- like so many things from japan

Actually, this was a "trick" thread... I thought it was about Japanese re-enactors of JAPANESE forces...

which would be, I imagine, quite a problem given the increase in average adult males' size in the decades after the war. If there are Japanese Japanese reenactors, they would not look at all like the peasant draftees of the 191X-2X generation.

Rick, there are actually Japanese Japanese reenactors. Did that make sense. At the opening of the National D Day Museums Pacific pavilion, several flew over from Japan to participate in the public battle.
