what's the largest unit and other questions!

what's the largest German re-enacting unit in the world and which has the most amount of armour?

Also with the opening up of Eastern Europe does the outlook look good for obtaining old armour to restore and use?

    just wondering!

Hi Andy, I can only speak for the UK on this subject, but the largest group here are "Second Battle group" who portray the "LAH". They have a good number of soft skin vehicles in their group, plus a replica "251" SPW. This year at Beltring they had an original Panzer IV and a "Panther" on their display.

Old armour which is found in Eastern Europe commands very high prices. These vehicles go to wealthy collectors in Western Europe or the USA. There are replica AFV's being produced though in Russia and the Ukraine. we have some threads about them in the "Achtung Panzer!" section of the forum.

    Cheers, Ade.

On top of high sale prices, items from Eastern Europe command high customs charges (up to 80 or 90 percent) that means if you pay 1 million to buy a working M36 from Yugoslavia (which will probably need expensive restoration work) you could pay up to 900,000 in customs charges. Plus the ATF has a lare variety of regulations you must follow.

yeah I checked out the coverage on their site! There is one photo in which you can see their area plus I think some other German units nearby and the amount of half tracks, tanks and feild guns etc is incredible! I also spotted a Tiger done in the same camo scheme as SBG's (I think) however this might've been the saving private ryan replica! Having said that all the armour, vehicles and troops looked really impressive. I wonder if there'll ever be a "re-enactment of the year" or something when units from all over the world join together for a huge tactical battle, that would be incredible. I would love to get into re-enacting but unfortunately for me it's now impossible. After 2 and a half years of saving I chose to go travelling South America instead

          Organix:

There are a few large units here in the states. LSSAH National has about 200+ members. We have original kubels, 2 Czech converted halftracks. Several Kettenkrads, 1 Schwimmwagen, Opel Blitz Truck, a couple of Fords, DeMag, Horch, 38t Tank, 8 motorcycles, several PAK guns, Field Kitchen, horses...

2nd Panzer has a large collection of armor.
Erste Zug is a large unit.
There is a Gebirg Unit that shows up at the GAP every year, lots of members.

              Andy:

The quickest way is to go to At The Fronts website http://atthefront.com/
Go to their links page, look for re-enacting units...voila! Lots to look through.
