      ofcource,
      that is not the point.
What I'm trying to say is that these buildings are monuments, that hole area is one monument.
You know also that the germans these days are not that much hiding behind the facts and the past then 40 years ago.
again, you know all what I'm trying to say by it.
and ofcource its just a piece of rock, but servall pieces of rock kan build the eagles nest remember !

My thoughts exactly!! The "rock" was not from the Eagles Nest!!
It was taken from the remains of the Berghof, which to my knowledge is only the "retaining wall" shown in the picture I posted. I didn't have time to explore deeper in the woods so I could be wrong.

I was talking to my uboot vet friend today and asked him about rocks on the roofs and he explained that the rocks are there to hold the clay tiles from blowing off especially in the mountainous areas. They were placed every few rows of the clay tiles

                Phil.

Are you talking about here - the main driveway? This photo is several years old, and I understand it's more overgrown now.

                Best,

As far as I know, the building process of the new hotel on the site of Goering's house generated a lot of rubble which was then dumped over the Berghof area.....who knows where this piece of rock came from......but I also picked up a few bits from the Berghof area when I visited the site a few years ago

Why has the German Government not destroyed the Eagle's Nest? I guess if Hitler can earn them money, all is good??????????

Blow up some buildings and keep some as tourist attractions. It does not make sense to me.

                        Hello TerryG:
I also have a brick from Hitler's House, now sitting on my
computer, that I picked up myself back in 1991 before the site
was totally buried. Back then the garage inside and out was
still visable - the roof being the patio as seen in Eva Hitler
home movies. My bit has red brick covered by lighter stucco
which was part of the outer surface of the house, before the
house was blown up in 1952 by the Bavarian government at
the request of the US Army. Why they left the garage up thru
the 1990's I've never figured out, but that is now covered up too.

This shot was taken from the "Zum Turken" Pension and shows both access roads to the Berghof.
