one of our birds has died

well went to the shoreham airshow saturday and it promised to be a top airshow.all was well until they started performing mock dogfights it ended with a hurrican crashing into a hillside killing the pilot.
now im all for living history but this is just madness.why would anyone put such strain on a 60+ year old air frame, these planes are our heritage and we have madmen flying them like this.i say its high time the caa brought in a rule that these aircraft can only perform fly byes and not perform aerobatics.this is a sad day yet again we have lost another peice of history

And the pilot isn't doing so well either...I would say that is the main issue. A plane is not worth a life.

What a terrible loss on the up side this time around at least no one on the ground has been injured. Seems the air shows are a pretty dangerous place to be.
did you see the crash Prussian?

Very sad news indeed but not unexpected. As you said, it looked to be a a "top show" unfortunately seeing vintage airgraft in flight is one of the best ways to make it so, and seeing living history flying above the crowd is what draws people from far and wide. Either the promoters learn to produce future airshows which succeed without them (which seems unlikely) or they will continue to gamble with people's lives and throw the dice.

Or at least until they run out of airplanes.

It is a double loss. Very unfortunate to hear, but grounding every WW2 plane left does not seem like a good idea.

a couple of years ago i went to biggen hill and witnessed a vampire crash on the saturday and then on sunday a king cobra went down.the cobra was pilot error he went too tight in a loop and couldn't pull out of it.
