The 5 of september 1944 the 29 years old sargent Maximilian Volke took off from an air field in northers Italy to strike 9 american B-29 bombers.
This became the 29 year old`s last dogfight.Volke credited shot down 37 enemy plains was this time shot down by american plains.
The plain chrashed in a field just north of Modena. This summer a airoplain historical interested group dug out Volkes Messerschmidt Bf 109.

The pilots remains was in a very good condition as the wreck had sunk 11 meters down in the soft terrain, said Leo Venieri to the newsbureau AP.
Venieri is president in the assosiation Romagna Air Finders.
Among the findings was the plains engine, the pilots microphone, a wallet with money, documents, a picture of the virgin Mary, fortune amults and a african elephant.
The positive identification came after the finding of a dogtag found in the pilots pocket, says Venieri to AP.
German cemetary.
The remains of the body is sendt to obduction on the university of Modena, and the group is planning of bury him at the german war cemetary Passo della Futa wich lies between Bologna and Firenze.
Venieri sayes that he has contacted Volkes family and invited them to the funeral.
Vast founds.
The familiy in germany was supprised of the findings og Volkes body. They claim to have receved a letter back from 1944 telling that Volkes remains was found and buryed.
Since the association Romagna Air Finders was started in 2000, has the approcsomaly 60 members found the amoundnt of 19 airoplains from WW2.
