    Swastika in a German forest

This photo was taken on November 14, 2000. The 60 x 60 meter swastika consisted of Larch trees in a Pine forest near the village of Zernikow (110 km Northeast of Berlin). It was only visible from the air a few weeks in the Spring and a few weeks in the Fall when Larch trees stood out in contract to the surrounding Pine trees.

These trees were planted in the 1930's by a local resident during Nazi times. They were largely forgotten until after the German reunification in 1992 when planes once again flew over the area.

Local forestry officials cut down 25 of the Larch trees after this photo appeared in several German tabloids. Swastikas are mostly outlawed in Germany.. Coins and stamps are exempt from the ban.

has anyone seen this artical is it real or fake ??

Well, another potentially interesting thread that was ruined because of one members political grandstanding. I wont be bothered by rehashing the rules over and over, it is expected to have a basic understanding of the rules in place before you hit the submit button. Ignorance isnt a defense, sorry.

Sorry for those members who lost otherwise amusing or intelluctual posts. Another example of one member ruining it for everyone else.

Let us try it again, this time without the biased commentary, ok?

    thanks.

Accidentally offending people on the internet since 1997

I remember reading about the forest when it was in the press. That building in San Diego, is very swastika shaped. Surely the architect and city planners could see that the shape was, well, a blatant Swastika. In the current climate I could see that being pulled down, despite the fact the design probably serves a useful purpose, is functional and in no way politically orientated.

I heard both the forest and the building were marked for a restructuring

It is very easy to walk out a pattern when you are planting trees. I suspect that there was a clearing when they were planting.

The buildings were intended to look like that. Did you notice the two 'bombers' that are heading for the swastika.
