Hi Paul, I do have a few stories. Most of them are about comical things. The Vets tend to remember the good times and will talk about these much more than the horror of what they went through.
I will post a few as soon as I can find the time. Watch this space!
    Cheers, Ade.

      Another loss.

Hi Guys, just got back from the reunion. I have more sad news that Reg Burgess, the second Vet in the series of photos, collasped and died suddenly last week. Reg and his wife, Cam, made us very welcome at the first reunion we attended 5 years ago. We did not know what to expect and we were kind of in awe of the Vets; they made sure that we were introduced to everyone. We were very shocked to hear of his death.
Reg joined up in 1943. He served in No.2 platoon, XXI IPC at Arnhem. He was wounded taking cover from enemy fire. He dived into a shell scrape which was already occupied and was shot in the back. He spent most of the battle holed up in a celler with several other wounded lads. They all thought that they would not see home again and wrote a letter to their parents which they hid in the celler. This letter only came to light a few years ago when the celler was renovated.
Reg was quite a ladies man and was, as you can see from his wartime photo, a handsome chap.
Reg and Cam used to return to Arnhem every year. He will be very sadly missed. Lez and I hope to attend his funeral on Friday.
      Cheers, Ade.
