A very sombre place, I once walked around at 7 o'clock one morning while out doing early morning photo's and like you said a stark contrast to the US cemetery.

Perhaps the most well known buried at la cambe and probably the most visited grave in Normandy.

                  Wittmann's crew .

A view past Wittmann's grave to the burial mound beyond.
The groups of crosses serve only to divide sections / the rows of graves .

And directly behind , as is well known the steps up to the top can be an accident waiting to happen in wet weather .
(But no problem on a dry sunny evening).
We visited at about 8.30 pm , apart from two other people the cemetery was empty.
I was last here in the early 90's - the visitors centre is new and contains a photographic dispaly of the work of the German war graves Comission on a world wide basis , the construction of the La cambe cemetery.
It is a mark of the ignorance , immaturity and stupidity that some idiots make the ocasional pro nazi remak in the guest book - the immature hand writing and the poorly drawn swastika's , SS runes are a tribute to their dull wit and inability to appreciate what they have seen or are about to see.
