    Band of Brothers Tour

    I AM GOING TO EUROPE!!
I just graduated college with a BBA and my parents are sending me on the Band of Brothers Tour for my accomplishment. I have been to Canada, Mexico, and some other Caribbean islands but never past the Atlantic.

This is what the tour includes:
    • Replica Airborne Jump Jacket as worn by the cast in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers
    • Trans-Atlantic airfare from Atlanta, GA to London, England and from Munich, Germany to Atlanta, GA
    • English Channel crossing to Normandy via ferry
    • High-speed train from Paris to Brussels
    • Full time historian and logistical escort
    • Educational road book full of maps and historical information
    • First class accomodations
    • Rooms with private bath or shower, hotel taxes, porterage and service charges
    • Touring by first class air-conditioned motorcoach
    • 11 Breakfasts, 10 Dinners and a Welcome Reception
    • All entrance fees to museums and attractions

A basic summary of the trip: Our group will follow the men of Easy Company, from the States in Atlanta, to England prior to the invasion, and then the Normandy and their fighting in France. One of the highlights is the visit to Berchtesgaden where Hitler's Eagles Nest once stood.

Atleast one of the veterans will be going on the trip with us. This is so special because these guys aren't getting any younger. Have any of you been on this tour or have traveld in Europe and have advice to share? I'm sure there are things that would be helpful to know before leaving. The trip isn't until September. I can't wait to share my pictures when I get back. Here is the link for the website if you want to look it over.

    Thanks in advance.

    Nate,

It's still there, and you will undoubtedly see it in your trip. The Berghof is no longer in existance (the remnants MAY still be there, but that appears to be changing as we speak . . .), but the Kehlstein House was left completely intact (although somewhat modified for tourism purposes!) and is now even home to a Hofbrauhaus restaurant!

Sounds like a great trip! Wish you the best and have a good time! And make sure you have a Hofbrau for me when you stand where Adolf once did (and I do believe it was only once or twice!)!

I was under the impression the Berghof and Eagles Nest were one in the same. I did some quick research and just realized the Eagles Nest was meant to be a retreat for Hitler and a place to entertain dignitaries and that the Berghof was Hitlers home. I"m glad you pointed this out to me. I found a couple books on the subject at the last gun show I went to and plan on picking them up at the JAG show coming up on the 9th in Louisville. Thanks for the wishes and I'll be sure to have a cold one for you!! (If Hofbrau is the german word for beer)??

        Nate,

"Hoffbrau" is a brand of beer - but you'll soon discover that on your trip!

And judging by your next trip to the JAG, you must live somewhere close to Cincinnati - if so, and if you ever want to be spoiled with your first taste of Hoffbrau beer before your trip, feel free to look me up in Cincinnati and I'll meet you for one! We are fortunate enough to have the second Hoffbrauhaus here, being that we are Munich's "Sister city" . . . .

Thanks for the Hoffbrau explanation!! I live near Lexington, so I am fortunate to be close to the Show of Shows and other OVMS sponsored events. The last MAX show took place in Indy. While browsing the city, I came across a German restaurant. Some of the best food I've had. I may take you up on your offer!!

I visited Lexington many years ago... drove to Evansville, Indiana to attend the 56th Fighter Group Reunion. It was there because the huge refrigerator (or applicance) factory there used to be Republic Aircraft Corporation and built the P-47 Thunderbolts. On our return we stopped into Lexington to hit two brewpubs so my friend could taste beer. We had some time on Sunday before they served so we looked around and found Confederate cavalry leader Morgan's home, as well as Transylvania University. The historical marker had the names of an impressive alumni including Jefferson Davis and Leonidas Polk to name two. It was started by the University of Virginia -- the original charter for Virginia extended all the way into Kentucky!!! Lexington was a very pleasant city and my friend and I agreed that we could probably live there. You are most fortunate to live in Lexington.
