Hi Guys I have made my first homepage and it is quite armature-like but I would like to share it with you. I live in Denmark and we have a lot of German bunkers around the cost. why has someone written "Zimmer Frei" on the top of one of the bunkers? perhaps you can explain the joke

We have similar bunkers here where i Live in New Zealand, built to keep the japs out. i went investigating some in the weekend: very interesting.

Hi Dave did you take any pictures?
The Zimmer Frei joke I think is because the bunkers were build by request of the German Army (Hitler) and after the war most of the tourist here in the northern part of Denmark is German. Many places local people has a room/zimmer Frei for rent signs along the road.

I have no camera at present but i have a friend who does so maybe I will make a return trip and get some photos as it is quite a good set up.

the place I went is called Godley head. They even carved a 100m tunnel through the rocks to get down to the coastline below the cliff in order to build/man bunkers for searchlights there.

Not a lot on the net about the Godley Head gun emplacements but here is a little.

you will also notice on the same site there is info about Ripapa Island.

This is where the (in)famous Von Luckner, skipper of the Seeadler, was inprisioned in WW1.

the Mount Pleasant bunkers also mentioned have been used for outdoor dance parties in recent years! I even made the mistake of going to one
