Most accurate Dot 44 camo available?

    Hi guys
I am looking to purchase a repro Dot 44 tunic/trousers for myself. Now I am aware there are loads of people who make this stuff, however, I have found a a seller on ebay "Spearhead Militaria". His Dot 44 looks reasonable and appears to have all the shades but would appreciate an expert opinion. The ebay stuff is very well priced but if it is junk I would walk away?

Are there any sellers you would recommened that are also affordable?

I am going to use to to occassionally wear while shooting and for my mannequin, wish i could afford the real stuff but so it goes.
Has anyone dealth with this seller and can they comment on the quality and accuracy of the Dot 44 cam?

    many thanks

I've encountered several SS reenactors wearing these Chinese made dot 44s from Spearhead Militaria. As far as accuracy goes, I would rate it poor to decent. I wouldn’t buy it if you are looking for the most accurate dot 44 reproduction, but you can’t go wrong for the price comparing to other vendors. I would recommend SM Wholesale or Gmax, as they are the most accurate reproductions I’ve seen, however they are expensive.

In my opinion the major flaw of these Chinese made dot 44s is that the dot camouflage pattern is horizontal rather then vertical on most original dot 44s.The first-aid pocket is located in the left side of the tunic which I believe is not correct. It also lacks the zigzag stitching under the collar, and the black painted buttons are bulky and not hollow back but these can be replaced.

Here’s a comparison between an original and the Spearhead Chinese reproduction

When I used to reenact we had a 10-feet rule: If you looked authentic from 10 feet away, you were okay. I think reenactors today want too much accuracy - to the point where after they put some honest wear in them, some dealer comes along and tries to sell it as an original. Even living historians don't need accuracy on the INSIDE of these garments because they are wearing them. Hopefully we will always be able to tell original from reproduction, but sometimes the 'crafted fakes' fool even veteran collectors.

Thanks for posting those photos. The difference becomes really apparent when you place an original next to it. I knew it didnt look "right" for some reason. I guess I will find something else...thanks for your comments.

I would go with the SM Wholesale Dot in HBT material. I think it is the best stuff available. The G-Max stuff is what we call "micro-dot" and I do not care for it. I would stay clear of the stuff from China.

          Just my opinion...

Don't use that site as a yardstick

I don't know any of those guys and I haven't reenacted in years but they really need to enforce some authenticity rules. Long hair, overweight, drawstring SS helmet covers, carrying their weapons partisan style, etc. Those photos sure won't be mistaken for period photos. Wearing camo that isn't quite right is the least of their troubles.

from what i gather after a bit of correspondence with the asian connection is that they would rather sell many cheap copies than few quality repros, i tried to explain that if they made something more detailed they would sell more as the people who are buying them are mostly serious collectors with cash and not some newbies just out of high school, theres no inbetween sellers offering a class product at a reduced rate than say smwholesale and gmax and others to supply the next catagory of collector being mr has more than one hobby and more than a couple of kids, still spearheads gear is great for film extras!
