    What to do in Vienna?

I'm gonna be in Vienna for 2 nights. I'm not too excited about it and was wandering if anyone had any ideas or experiences that are worthwhile?

    Thanks.

Vienna is one of the most beautiful and cultured European cities I've visited (and I'm not just saying that because half my family comes from there )

Between architecture, museums, food, shopping, etc. there's quite a bit to do.

2 days isn't a lot! I'd highly recommend the Heeresgeschichtliches museum. You'll definitely need at least 4 or 5 hours for that (I spent an entire day there ) Vienna's massive FlaK towers are still standing and worth checking out. If the weather is nice, I'd also recommend taking a walk over to Heldenplatz to see the Hofburg and the balcony from where Hitler gave a speech to a crowd of hundreds of thousands in 1938 (My Oma was one of the many people in attendance that day )

St. Stephen's Cathedral is also a "must-see" on my list. The Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna is also highly recommended...

Wow...There's just so much to do! I'd say buy a travel guide, OR you can just go to this wonderful site and see how much sight-seeing you can cram into two days

    Hope this helps.

If you like classical music and are in a budget, they have standing room where you only pay a few dollars. I had an old friend tell me that is where the Soldiers would listen to the music back before WWII.

Be sure to get the cheese wurst (kaiser krainer I think) and the Krapen (jelly doughnut).

There is also the klocken speil which I think is the best in Europe. It is near St Stephens. Get there around noon.

The Schounbrun (sp) Palace is good too.

.....and the Augustinerkeller for amazing food, wine and beer. Within the Ring and just a few blocks from the Opera. Climb to the top of the Stephansdom, don't take the elevator, and you can see several of the surviving Flakturm, then down to the catacombs for a tour. Tour the Belvedere, or Hofburg, or Schoenbrunn and see what the Soviets did to the Gloriette. If militaria is your thing, the follow the advice and hit the Heeresgeschichtlichesmuseum. Amazing City.

Dude, if being in Vienna even for just 2 days doesn't excite you nothing will.
Just to be able to be in the places where the greatest musical genius of all time played and conducted. Go to Stephanplatz, Schonbrünner, the opera house, Beethoven's house by the Danube, on and on. Hell, buy some Mozartkugeln and go sit downtown where you can enjoy street musicians for free. I'd take your place for those 2 days in a heartbeat.
            Have fun.

Thanks guys. I'll print all the suggestions and cram in as many as I can. 2 nights isn't much but my visit is squeezed inbetween longer stays in Prague & Munich. I've been focusing my travel research on those two cities and haven't put forth much time on Vienna up to this point.

              & I hope I don't run into Sturmann at the swinger's club!

                Regards,

Apart from the above I visited Sigmund Freud's house and the Spanish Riding School, home of the famous Lippizaner horses, and Mozart's grave. The uniform and car of Archduke Franz Ferdinand that he was wearing (complte with bloodstains at the neck) and being chauffered in when he was assassinated is at the military museum ...and we all know where that led to...Also visited the crypt of the Hapsburg monarchy. The whole place is fantastic
