And now moving to the nearby town of Moltenort, where the memorial to all sailors lost in U-Boats can be found. As mentioned at the outset, my camera batteries died on me here, so I only have a couple of pictures to show:

                    Many thanks for posting

I visited the site in 2003 and was very impressed. The memorial tower from memory is about 300 feet high and I went to the top thanks to an elevator or 'lift' as we say in the UK. The sea view was amazing.

There were about 50 young German sailors in uniform touring the site at the same and it was good that they were officially encouraged to view their heritage.

I have a few pics somewhere and I'll post them later.

To my knowledge there is nothing similar in the UK that commemorates Royal Navy losses

                        Thankyou

Thank you for the photos - really enjoyed seeing them especially the memorials to the ships and men lost.

The large propellor set up close to the memorial is from the Prinz Eugen.

Thanks for the additional photos for the thread. It is always interesting to be able to see historic sites and memorials from other parts of the world..

                                U650

Would you know if U650 is listed on that monument? My good friend Edgar served on U650 till he was injured and couldn't sail on her last tour. He was then posted to U901 where he served out the rest of the war till the surrender. If you have a pic of the section with U650 showing would love a copy of it so I could print it out and give the picture to Edgar.
