    German Naval Bases in Japan

    Hello,

I heard somewhere that there were German KM bases in Japan?

Is this true, and if it is true, where were they located, and are there any books on the subject?

    Hi,
there were uboat bases i Malaysia, Penang, and in Indonesia, Sorabaya (not 100% on the spelling there). These bases were in reality Japanese seabases but the germans used them as well. The commander in Penang was Korvttenkapitän Ehrhardt and the commander in Sorabya was Kapitänleutnant Konrad Hoppe, also first officer on U-168. Korvettenkapitän Dommes was Chef Sudraum = commander of all german forces in and around the south ocean.

There were also german sailors in Japan, mainly men from civilian blokade runners and Hilfskreuzer. Dont think there were ports only for the germans, they used them together with the japanese.

    Best regards
    Petrus
