Has anyone found info on the Lt Fred Browning, or on the second Spitfire, he claimed to have shot down?

I can't find any claims of Spitfires by JG53 in Tony Woods list. Lots of Spitfires claimed by JG26 though.

Might be worth printing Tony's list and asking Dulias why his claims are not listed.

Nevermind what? The burden of proof is on the said individual who gallivants around pretending to be a Luftwaffe ace. If in fact his story had merit, there indeed would be some shred of evidence to suggest that perhaps he is what he CLAIMS to be. It is an interesting irony that the bonified rarely parade themselves around, and have all the accolades put away in the closet. This is NOT one of those cases with Herr Dulias.

Interesting thread which I have read with respect of the many experts on this site.

Despite all evidence pointing to that Mr. Dulias doesn't seem to have excisted I'd like to point out that the man in this picture definitely appears to be the same.

I'd also like to underline that even though many historians and collectors are VERY skilled I don't believe everything has a record. In other words there wasn't a record of EVERY incident in the 2. WW. Not everything was as perfect as many collectors think - and as many historians hope

I also think it's important to point out that vets from the 2. WW these days are looked upon as more or less heroes. This is collectors own "faults".

Hence my point is that we as collectors encourage many veterans - and others - to use every oppotunity to either become more famous (or just become famous) than they perhaps have the right to be.

he might or he might not be, the germans did keep records for everything they did. they also burnt a hell of alot of them. Some may very well have been destroyed by enemy fire.

If the guy is lying then its probarly a failed dream he is living more than anything else. If he is then theres going to be a fair few middle aged men with red faces here. What I'm saying is until proper and full research has been done which proves 100% that he is or he isn't what he says he is.

I think you guys are missing the point: noboby here is questioning who he says he is, but rather what he says he is.

This guy is a blatant fraud. It's just plain, dead simple obvious. A LW pilot left many traces and military aviation historians have reached such a degree of knowledge that it is impossible a pilot with several scores goes unnoticed and undocumented.

EXACTLY! Judge him after you have walked in his shoes. Most here wouldn't have lasted a day!

And, as I have said before, he is a very nice humble guy who has endured some tremendous hardships and who has unfortunately been influenced by some very flaky re-enactors (who are not collectors or historians and accuracy is not something which guides them). They have convinced him to wear a uniform (they made it for him and he wears it without question) and have embellished his experiences, to include his book. These "ego-centric hero worshippers" are known to have done this to a number of German veterans who tend to be flattered by others, in many cases for the first time in their lives, who show an interest in their war time experiences. The re-enactors who have tremendously influenced this matter run around in restuarants and hotel lobbies in Luftwaffe uniforms wearing rank and awards they awarded themselves and "earned" while playing computer dogfight games. As I stated earlier, Gottfried has sadly been influenced by these guys. So, go after them and leave the poor guy alone.

And, I say all this without quoting the WAF rules which some are breaking in this thread. I have had enough....

If he is a fraud then in the US that makes it a criminal offence unless i'm mistaken, or doesn't it apply once you reach a certain age?

On the other hand i'm somewhat surprised those that have been looking into his service career for several years have yet it seems to have shown either way any conclusive evidence as to his story. A couple at least have publicly stated some time ago that they've been looking into it so they should really put up or shut up.

Why is it impossible?. nothing is impossible, to die from a shark attack is 1. 246 million, some might say that is impossible, tell that to the 15 people who die a year.
