USS North Carolina Comes Home 1961

In 1961 the USS NC was going to be scraped.. The NC Battleship commission asked all NC school Children to donate nickles, dimes and quarters to save her.. I remember it well.. The USS NC was saved and is in Wilmington,NC.. Here is a short clip of The 'SHOWBOAT' coming home to NC in 1961... click on the Battleship.. BILL

A friend was discussing this on a vet board and said it crushed and sank a small restaurant while being placed.
Bunch of us from SFTG went down to see it in '67, it was quite impressive.
I think that kingfisher float plane was restored for display on this ship and it is the sole survivor. It is reported to be suffering.

Hi Bill, I visited that ship every time I was stationed or went to school in Camp Lejeune. I just happened to find this picture from 1988. Some good memories. Duane
