Meeting an SS vet.

Hello all, Sometime next month a friend of mine from work has offered to take me along on a visit to a local gentleman who was a member of the Waffen SS Hohenstaufen div. I gues he is very open and willing to talk about his times in the HJ, then RAD then joining the SS in the summer of 44. (i think ). Anway, he was in a recon element in the division.
I thought if anybody had any question they would like me to ask , I would be more than happy to.

What kind of fighting was he involved in?

Ask if he was in any close combat and if he remember how he felt.

What kind of weapon did he or they use in close combat.....knife,spade,pistol
or?

What fights was he involved in during the war......try to get the hole history.
It's not often you've got the possibility to talk to a REAL fighter.

Yes, defenetly bring a recorder: I only had the chance to talk with a few German vets. I found one who lived in southern France and had not only an exelent memorry, but also exelent memories to tell about. And he was 100% honnest as well. He was realy an amazing guy. He told me about the war for several hours, and I was taking notes. I wanted to go back to see him with a tape recorder a few months latter and found out he died. I kicked myself for not bringing the tape recorder the first time ever since.

Screw the recorder! If he's not against it, why not bring a video camera?
No need to set it up or anything just put it on a table or something and let it roll. Getting to meet a real fighter like this is something that should be well documented. Please post the video somewhere if you get to tape him.
