I am thinking about doing a tropical/Italian themed FJ reenactment impression....I have a repro FJ helmet from at the front, I would like to paint it a "mustard brown" color similar to helmets that were issued in this theater. I have heard that Testors and perhaps some other model suppliers have a "mustard brown" in their stock? Does anyone have any leads or ideas as to where I can obtain the correct paint? Thanks, Chris....

Reenactors FJ helmet question?

most hobby stores have spray paint cans of the mustard brown available - it ain't cheap though.
1944 militaria sells the ordinance tan in a spray paint can - again, not cheap but accurate
Walmart has a line of camo paints - they have a base tan color that I've used for crates and have been pleased with - matches up with an original trinkvasser I have in the ordinance tan color.
According to a veteran's account, the helmets were lined up at the motor pool and sprayed down with the same paint being used on the vehicles - just sat on the ground in a row and painted.
Pretty bland I know. You could weather it from that point if you want or add some brown or while still wet, some sand?
Good Luck!If only I could be half the man my dog thinks I am
