A milage pass is the Army's way of baby-sitting. We're not allowed to travel outside 200 miles with out getting one approved. I got it ok, so I'll be there for sure. Probably be there sometime around 10am
Dion- went out into town today. This country is amazing. I think I'm going to seriously immigrate after I get done with the Army.
Rich, I will be there before 10. So if you want I can pick you up in bastogne and we'll drive to the hotel.....that was the meeting point if I am not mistaking
Kameraden,
Please take fotos and post them here. I'd like to see the sites in the late fall since I was there in the spring. It also would be great to place the names with faces!!
The hotel is in Houffalize, which is about 20 km from each other.
I can understand that you don't find the hotel IN Bastogne .
I have some sad news: I will not make it tomorrow.
Normally, my mother in law would look after my 2,5 years old daughter, but since my wife's great-grandmother (grandmother of my mother in law) is laying on her "death-bed" (she can die any moment), I will not have a baby sit. The family is gathering around the bed.
It is not that bad for the old lady, since she is about 90 years old and she was very ill the last couple of months. For her it is better that it will be over very fast.
Nick,
I'm really sorry to hear that. Always hard, even when you know it's the best. We'll have to do another trip. Talk is that my unit might not get deployed till June: maybe we can do a Normandy trip?
I'll leave here probably around six. Mapquest says it'll take 5 hours, and I've gotta figure some "getting lost" time too. So I'll probably be a little later. I've got your handy number, so I'll just call you and we'll meet up. I rented a car by the way, so hooking up shouldn't be a prob. I'm not going to miss anything in the morning am I?
