Hi Max, the Broomhandle Mauser was taken from a Boer. I cannot recall all the other captions to the items, so some might have been. I was very taken with the condition of the pistol it was very nice.

Hi Chuck, the 64th of Foot were engaged in the Revolutionary war:

They later became the North Staffs Regt, which in turn were amalgamated in 1959 with the South Staffs Regt to form the current Staffs Regt.

Hi Ian, sadly I did not get to the trench experince event The weather was not too good with wind and rain which would have really added to the atmosphere too.

Yea, I thought so. From 1974 thru 1980 I recreated a Light Infantryman of the 64th Regiment of Foot. Still have my repro Brown Bess and bayo.

Our uniform cloth was made on the same looms as that used 200 years berfore. If I can ever dig out a Pic I'll post me in my finery. The only thing that wasn't reproduced accurately was my shoes, which as much as we marched was AOK with me.

Good boots are indeed a vital part of your kit. As you know, I re-enact both as WW2 Brit A/B and WW2 Red Army. The Russian boots are like wearing slippers, whereas the British boots are very hard on the feet but are still OK to wear.

Very nice thread Ade. In relation to the Cain smock, I just wonder if that really is it? I mean, shouldn't it have some holes/rips and blood stains given Cain's wounds? Is there any photographs of Major Cain in Arnhem that we can compare with? Maybe I am overly sceptic but I remember being in a museum in Canada and shown a smock that Leo Heaps supposedly wore at Arnhem. It was a 2nd pattern smock and 1945 dated It probably did belong to him but obviously not the one he wore at Arnhem. Also I don't think it was uncommon for officers to have more than one denison. I know one particular officer who had 2. One was combat worn and you could tell, the other was mint and probably only used for best dress or parades. Any thoughts?
