Thought I might post a picture of myself next to the periscope of u190, which surrendered here on the east coast of Newfoundland, Canada on May 12, 1945. The periscope is still working and extends through the roof to view outside. It's located in an ex officer's club here in St. John's. They also have the a great photo album of the crew and captain after they surrendered. Many of them are wearing EK's and submarine badges. Very interesting

I'm already working on that. Apparently they are on a disc or something. They also have a number of framed photos including the sub in both Bay Bulls Harbour whre it surrendered and St. John's Harbour, where I live. The photos are great and the crew actually lok quite happy to be captured! It's hard to get access to this club but I want to get these pictures myself. I'll work on it this week.

It's here in my hometown of St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. We're an island on the east coast that saw some uboat action during the war. We had 2 coal boats sunk off of another island here during the war by German uboats. There's still a number of old coastal fortifications around the coast here, including one that still has the huge coastal gun attached. I'll get some pictures of that soon also. This periscope is in a private club that was once an officers club during the war. They had an open house there a few weeks ago so I went down to get a picture of the periscope. They also have two shell casings from the HMS Exeter taht was in the battle with the Gaf Spee, lots of gunshield art etc. Interesting place.
