Today, I visited the Chickamauga Battlefield in the attempt to locate the position of where my great, great, great uncle, Pvt. A.J. Hughes of the 65th GA Infantry Regiment, CSA served. After a short walk, I located his unit's marker, and I was surprised to find that his regiment was sent to support a battery of artillery. The artillery piece represented is of a British Blakely gun that was smuggled through the blockade, and from what I am told is the only Blakely represented on the battlefield.
It was a nice visit, kind of odd considering that today was the 143rd anniversary of the Battle of Chickamauga. I hope that you enjoy the pictures. It was a real joy at having found my ancestor's unit marker.
