    FJ in Afrika Impression

    Hello

I am putting an FJ impression for Afrika battles and have a couple of question. What color bandoleer would have been used? Blue, Tan, Splinter, etc.? What breadbag, tropical like the Heer or the Luft blue one?

    Thanks, fischer

it has always been my understanding that the uniforms and equipment changed as the length of time the forces were employed. For example, I believe you'd see a blue bandoleer and blue shoulderboards, etc.. earlier on after the FJ's were first mobilized there......later after being utilized in North Afrika and having a more established supply route, I believe you see more tropical issue Luft items being employed - including webbed gear and tropical breadbags -- I do believe for the most part the splinter bandoleers would have arrived then, with the tan showing up later.

        I hope this helps.

I would recommend the use of a blue bandoleer, so far I have only seen those on wartime pics. The tan-ones were not introduced before 1944, so to late for afrika.

For the fieldgear, it depends - like Mike has mentioned - on the year your display should look like. I would say you can never go wrong when using normal blue breadbag and canteen, as no one would have trown away his good stuff, it would have been used up.

Yes...blue bandoleer and breadbag, plus leather Y-straps.

                  Regards,
                  Steve
