Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's nest) tours

Just reviving an old thread.

I'm hoping to do an Eagles nest tour from Salzburg in August.

Any particular companies better than others?

Hoping for one that doesn't just focus on the Kehlsteinhaus.

Don't waste your money on a tour guide. If you know your stuff just get yourself up there as I did in July. The drive is a bit steep but you park in a big carpark halfway up the Obersalzburg at a documentation centre (nr the Berghof ruins/Hotel zum Turken), and then get the bus up to the Kehlsteinhaus carpark, and then the lift.

Regarding an historical tour, I thank Geoff for providing my details.

To let others know a little about myself:

My name’s Tom, originally from England and I've had a interest in The Third Reich for many years. Although I have not personally posted here very much, I have been avidly reading the discussions with interest for a long time. I have also spent time with some of the last eyewitnesses to this time, although sadly most have now passed away.

I'm an historical tour guide (since 2014), based in Berchtesgaden, Germany. I'm accredited by the Institute for Contemporary History (Zeitgeschichte) München - Berlin as a specialised guide for Third Reich themes. I offer tours of the entire Obersalzberg area, including the bunkers and tunnels here on the mountain, and the Kehlsteinhaus/Eagle's Nest. As part of my services I also offer detailed tours through the Obersalzberg Documentation Centre.

I'm also happy to tailor a tour to suit exactly what people are interested in seeing if they have something particular in mind.

As mentioned by others, you don't need a tour guide to visit the Eagle's Nest. However, what I offer is a much more in-depth historical tour than just going up to the building on your own - we would be exploring the real history of the mountain and if interested, visiting some of the hidden sites that usually guests to the area don't get to see or don't even know about.

I was at the 'Eagle's Nest' a couple of weeks ago and was seriously disappointed. The restaurant dominates what should really be a museum. Yes the view was amazing, but any remnants of its former history are gone. If you want to drink beer and eat cream buns then maybe it is worth the price and effort. Better off sitting in the forest at night with the fireflies and a bottle of German wine at the Kampfhausl for a real Third Reich experience.

Have you done this at the Kampfhausl?

The whole of the Berteschgaden area is very interesting and intriguing.

I went 2 years ago for my 50th Birthday & loved the whole are experience, also did boat trip on lake konigsee just up the road, loved the eagles nest too,

I didn't stay in historic hotel but it was a fantastic one, it was the Kempinski built on Goering's plot looks up at the Eagles Nest from the hot pool outside.

So much history to see all around the area. I cant wait to go back again.

I used the book both times ive been. Its very good and all you will need. Plus a car lol. I have 2 copies of the book as one got beat up bad on my first trip.
Also Thrid reich in ruins is very good.

On that note can a guild get you anywhere really special or not allowed for the rest of the public.

You could stay at the Old SS barracks next to Hitlers house. I hear its very scary so dont freak out if you wake up and see him hovering over your bed.
But i think its been renavated.
