Polish Parachute Brigade

The Polish Parachute Brigade which was under the command of Stanislaw Sosabowski FINALLY got recognistion and honoured today after 62 years, by Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, for their brave actions in the battle of Arnhem.
They got decorated with the Willemsorde, the highest military decoration.

Queen Wilhelmina had already given that order in 1946 but it was naver carried out, Prince Bernhard also pressed on the matter, and now Queen Beatrix was very happy that she could make up for that error.

There were several veterans in The Hague and some widows and other family.

Stanislaw Sosabowski got the second highest military decoration, the Bronzen Leeuw. The awards was given to his grandchildren.

Finally a honour debt redeemed by our country to these great Polish heroes who fought to liberate our country, while there commitment lay elsewhere in there own capital with the uprising of Warschaw in august 1944.<O</O<O</O<O</O<O</O<O</O<O</O

(I took this picture in the evening after the ceremony in the Barracks in the Den Haag where one of the receptions was being held).
