I believe 2 living pilots were found in the water during the Okinawa campaign. One was seriously injured and died soon after pickup, without any communication. The other resisted and fought the members of the boat crew who tried to pull him out, finally swimming away and diving, never to be seen again.

Kamikazi....
I have a senninbari that was a direct veteran purchase. This vet was a member of an LCT that took part in the battle for Okinawa. His gun crew shot down a kamikazi plane. The charge failed to go off on the plane. It came in for a soft water landing and the pilot died soon thereafter! 2 members of the LCT swam out to the plane and recovered the tanto and the senninbari. Mike

Kamikazi....
If you mean my senninbari, no, this particular one is not for sale. I plan to use it as any illustration in my upcoming book on good luck flags and 1000 stitch belts. The Collector's Guild has a nice one for sale with a stitched tiger and good luck coin sewn into it. Take a look there.... Hope this helps. Mike

A suicide attack by aircraft would make survival impossible whether the bomb blew or not. By definition it means a high speed descent involving both you and your aircraft as the bomb delivery and guidance system. There are documented surrvivors though, who never left the ground do to mechanical problems or, in a few cases, tranferred out (believe it or not this was permited with no loss of honour) or, through promotion were considered to valuable to sacrifice. One of the Japanese officers who was a leading proponent of this tactic , organised and trained these pilots was forbbiden to fly a mission himself. I think he was interviewed in the "World at war" series. He, in his older life, regreted his involvment in motivating these pilots to a useless death.
