    Living History in Canada

This was my first event. The 15th Panzer Gren. Div with elements of the 2nd Pz. Gren and KG Norden (an SS unit) were up against the Canadian Perth Regiment. Actual field tactics training culminating with an extensive tactical battle was an incredible experience.

The battle took place at CFB Borden - a large military base and range in southern Ontario. The event was in a 10km square area with cross roads etc. used for actual military training. All participants on both sides were highly professional and the final battle using blanks rounds, shell and pyrotechics was haunting to say the lest. Canadian's had armoured support while German had a pak and several MG's.

Misty weather and over cast added to the atmosphere.

Everyone took their impression very seriously - it felt quite 'real' all around.

              John:

As a member of the WSS detachement of Kampfgruppe Haase (shameless plug www.soldaten.ca), I'm glad you could finally make it to an event.

We had roughly 40 members out that day, an excellent scneario. Excellent day for deployment, ominous weather and great day for training in the morning. I have more pictures, but alas, as I'm not a full member, cannot post. For thos of you interested, there's lots more photos on our website, of various event.

We look forward to you coming back again John, will see you at the CARP Airshow in June.

                          Great pics!

Is any of the equipment or material original? Or all repro?

                              Hi Darrell,

Everything except the zeltbahns are repro from what I understand. Intense attention was paid to getting every just right - from the weapons down to the mess tins. Original webbing etc... would not stand up to punishment after 60 years... besides, original stuff is just so damned expensive. It would traumatize me personnally roll around in the dirt with original militaria....
