Not quite living histroy but here goes.

By any chance can anyone recall a play which was on BBc , about 10-12 years ago. ( tall order I know).
The play was about two groups of re enactors , one American and one German who have agreeded to encounter each other at a prearanged meeting place one weekend.
The main focus was on the " Americans" - their relationships with each other , etc.
The Germans , an SS outfit seemed to be the more "professional" , better organised and disicplined of the two - only ocasional shots of them.

Two "Americans" sent on "patrol" to try and scout out the loaction of the "SS" , managed instead to find two german backpackers , who they "take prisoner".
the two german girls see the "re enactors" ( the two they had to tolerate) as only being boys playing soldiers .

The play ended with one of these two "Yanks" being blinded in a gun related accident.

Can't recall much more , but odds on the german outfit must have been a UK based group and the supporting " Yanks" must have been from another Uk based outfit.
No idea what it was called , sorry for the disjointed description but its all i can remember !

Hi James, the play was called "Over there". It actually dates from 20 years ago now. I remember it well. It has not been shown on TV for many years now. I have done a search but I cannot find it for sale on video or DVD. I will ask around some of my friends this weekend who are long time re-enactors like myself, as someone might still have it on video.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Adam, yes I saw that thread there as well. I recall watching that play years ago and thinking at the time "this will set re-enactment back years". But some of it was very true to life

We will indeed be at Fort Nelson this weekend

        Cheers, Ade.

20 years ago - does not seem that long , honestly - 15 at most to me!!
Cheers for the link to the re enactors forum , will enjoy taking a look there occasionally.

the film is called Over There and was filmed I think just over 20 years ago in the Lake District most of the German uniforms were from my collection I dressed a group of friends and collectors up for the duration of the film as I didn't really want to be involved dressed up in some of the film prop stuff at the time and as can be seen they are all originals and mostly SS, the guns were all firearms but supplied through the BBC, the American group was our local Military Vehicle group now disbanded that was called the USAVC, a lot of the guys in the film are still around as military vehicle owners and quite a few of us are still around as collectors. It was quite a lot of fun doing the filming and as I remember it was quite financially lucrative at the time as well
