The last survivor of the 1914 "Christmas Truce" has died

Hello folks,
I just wanted to let some of you know that Alfred Anderson who was the last survivor of the 1914 "Christmas Truce" has died at the age of 109.

Anderson was born on June 25, 1896 and joined the Black Watch regiment at the age of 18.

During the war, Anderson also served as batman to Captain Fergus Bowes-Lyon, brother of the late Queen Mother Elizabeth. Bowes-Lyon was killed in 1915 at the Battle of Loos.

Anderson fought in France until 1916, when he was wounded by shrapnel.

In 1998, Anderson was awarded France's Legion of Honor for his war service.

Anderson is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The news article says there are currently less then 10 WWI veterans still alive in Britain.

That is sad news, I believe I saw him in the two part TV programme titled Tommy that was on recently. I think there are only three veterans left in the UK now.

France awarding of the Legion D'Honour to some of these vets was such a nice tribute, they all wore them with pride on Tommy.

I hope he rests in ever lasting peace, and never has to think of, or see the hell he must have endured in the trenches.

Sad News.

I read of this poor gentlemans passing in yesterday's "Daily Mail" , so very few of these old soldiers left , within a short period of time they will all have answered the final call.
May he find a well deserved peaceful rest and may we as a nation long remember what these men endured.
