Just curious if any mention has been made about anyone un-earthing a large pewter indian statue along the road leading to the Dunkirk evacuation area. My regiment was forced to bury the unit's mascot. Unfortunately the men detailed to bury it were later killed in action when the unit was re-deployed in Italy. There is reference to the burying of the mascot in Farley Mowat's book about my regiment called "The Regiment". For all I know it may have been dug up by some farmer and could be sitting in a barn somewhere along the road leading to Dunkirk

Hasty P's
Hello,
Just a guess but are you with the Hasty P's? If you are, my grandfather landed with your regiment on Sicily as part of the Combat Engineers supporting you landing.
Would you happen to have a picture of your mascot? I don't know how much stuff your regimental museum has but if they have thier original War Diary, you should at least be able to narrow down the seach area. Even though an infrantry battalion seems big, its AOR is still pretty small. There is a webstie out there where you can put in a grid reference from WW2 and it will show you exactly where it is now.
Hope this helps,
Cam
