green smock...
Hello Katsumasa
At the moment there are no really good repros of the "gruen meliert" smocks available. No one is currently reproducing this fabric. The ones that Lost Battalions sells are widely regarded as being very good (if you do not look too close at the fabric) but good photos are hard to get. I would like one myself, I mailed LB and got back that (he) does not have a good camera nor the time to male pictures...clever sales guy?
I heard a roumor that a Chinese company is going to make green smocks in 2nd model step-in soon but I have not yet seen pictures...
cheers

Hi Katsumasa
I know those...they are really a joke! But the guys that made those have meanwhile stopped producing them since they realized that a green smock in 3rd model pattern did never exist. They already (almost) have a new 3rd model and a proper 2nd model is in planning. Have a look at the attached picture, it's the new splinter B that comes from China. Looks prommising in my eyes!
cheers
Uwe

Currently, the fabric selection is not the best. As rumors go, there's always something in "the works" with all of the repro vendors.
Lost Battalions has a nice, new heavy twill material early green style smock available, however getting one of the new ones vs one of the old ones is best accomplished in person at an event.
I ordered mine through Gmax this spring and am very happy with it - it was custom, but at 6'4" I need a little extra room on the step-in model. If only I could be half the man my dog thinks I am

I was told that Lost Battalions latest run of gruen meliert smocks are far better than the last. I have never seen these, and they are waiting to sell out of their old ones before they start selling the new ones...but wanted you to know that it may not be a bad idea to hold onto your money for just a BIT longer.

I have one of LB's early green step-in. I had to dye it a little to get a more accurate color. The problem is with the Grünmeliert fabric......originals, based on the 3-thread contruction (in most), present either a more blue or more green color. Tough, if not impossible, to reproduce nicely.
I find the Gmax water patterns to be the most accurate, along with their tan based splinter. Most smocks just have to be seen, as each production run tends to be different, in order to choose the best available. Most, including the ones above, have an odd green tint to the base color.
Here is what I consider to be the most accurate splinter pattern. Unfortunately, it was a private run of fabric made for a vehicle collector. I bought enough, back in 1993, to make 4 smocks. This was back when no one was really made a smock that looked good by any standard.Attached FilesWilli

Seems that each repro manufacturer either looses their fabric supplier or changes their mind about a print every year or so.If only I could be half the man my dog thinks I am
