Hi JL . Very strange but i hav't seen this thread until moment .
We had great digging in Demyansk area and of course i'll show here SS helmet i fount and better pics of SS side cap . The helmet is far from mint but very interesting anyway . It was field overpainted but decals are well visible from under the paint as an early apple green color . Unfortunatly the helmet was found at the evening almost in full darkness , so i did't make the pics inside the bunker but only after digging when i was at home .

                Приятно услышать знакомую речь
Такой сохран встречается на почвах с высоким содержанием песка .
Clothes as is steel are well preserve in a ground with a high contents of the sand .
In a clear dry sand clothes has very good condition even after 60 years .
Below is a small foxhole or bunker also dug up by me at that area . There were many ss items inside in nice relic condition such as shoulderboards, sidecap buttons, belts and over items( socks, gloves etc.) . Probably there was a small depot
To munster - i make a call to Eugeny about your interest , he must contact you .

Is it possible that the hair found in the helmet wasn't human? It looks very coarse and to be cut at different lengths, which would suggest that the man's hair had to be really long. Is it possible that it too was use as insulation-such as deer/russian elks or horse hair?

Awesome thread by the way. It would be really fun to go and do this some day in Russia. Any info on who to contact or anybody want to go???

Thank You Very Much Sturm and we have been in contact. If you could just be so kind to tell him I will link him out in a matter of days. I had to make a sudden move out of my apartment and do not have regular acess to my e mails.
