    Helmet quality...

    Hello all

I have a question about this original helmet (if it is a real one)...what makes me wonder is the very visible groove around the rim of the helmet. This I think happened when the rim was rolled in and is not visible on a lot of other helmets I know (from pictures)...

If this is a real helmet than my repro is not far off. When I first got it I was a bit worried about it...

    thanks

Uwe, can you post a picture of the inside of the helmet? In particular, I would like to see the inside edge of it.

    Regards,

    Walter

From the photo it looks like a reproduction, but either way, more photos will determine for certain.

The helmet on the Guild site is authentic and exhibits 60 years of age. The one you posted appears painted about yesterday Re-enact in it for a while and it will look better.

        Hi John

The one I posted is my re-enactment repro and new! I just wanted to get an ok on the other one since it shows the same tool marks like my repro...those tool marks are not on all the originals I had pictures of so far. That's why I was worried about the repros shell I have but now since I have pictures of a real one with the same marks...I just try to get as good equippment as possible.

        thanks
        Uwe

Has this section turned into a vetting forum for re-enactor equipment now? Quite a departure from its original premise.

            I concur with Eric,

wasn't there a special section created for exactly this, called "Ebay (or from where ever) Helmet Authentication"

...had it been from E-bay I would have put it the E-bay thread...!!!
No where it was said so far that we could not compare repros with the originals, ask questions about originals that seem strange, etc...
I meanwhile get that feeling that some folks here sort of look down on others just because their main interest is not just in pedding originals with cotton gloves. I find this rather sad since one could get the feeling they want to create two different classes in here, those who can (and want to) afford originals and those who can't (or don't want to). Sad...

For God's sake, not this rubbish again, if the thread offends you, just don't read it! I am sick of seeing people slammed for posting something that they are trying to get an answer on, then end up having to justify why they posted it where they did. Get it sorted with a PM if you have to interdict someone on something like this, and let the rest of us read on and enjoy the subject.
                Bad form indeed!

                  Uwe,

How are you? I have not been visiting the forum much, for that very reason. As soon as I check in, I find you drawing flak again! Sad, isn't it? Well, chin up - carry on!

                  Steve,

Isn't there a quote? "Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely." Or something to that effect. We peons cannot challenge the hierarchy. It's their ball, & if we don't play their way, they will pick it up & take it home. Think like a duck - it will roll off your back.

                  Best,
                  Matt
