This event has been better than last year. Hoping to be even better next year! And also hoping sooner or later to join the volunteers... or the Turks!

        Theo,
Thanks for the extra pictures. It appears that the pass was covered in clouds that day. What is the elevation of the Shipka Pass?

Found one more interesting Not only the rifles were firing blanks, but there were also several period small cannons making noise

Looks like fun! Where are the reenactors from? Just Bulgaria or do they come from other countries for the event? I guess the Turks lose every year, and can't drink beer.

                Only Bulgarians, all of them.

Last year there was a medieval reenacting event, about the 1440's crusade against the turks - there were great many guys from the Czech republic, also some from Poland if not wrong. The Czechs have great medieval reenacting gear!

                    Hi Ray,

Here are some pictures, unfortunate;y made by relatives of some of the Ottomans, it seems, so mostly the Turks are seen

Reenacting the failed crusade of the western army, led by the young Polish king Vladislav III Yagelo, against the Turks invading Europe. If remember right, he managed to defeat them well, but in the most important battle went too far ahead in the battle and was killed - losing their leader, the knights were defeated... Year 1444
