Wonderfull report Pierre , thanks taking us around...I'm planning to visit the Colmar-area very soon too, so any hints are more then welcome.

I have visisted Le Linge as well, and thought of it as very impressive, like the Hartmannswillerkopf, Petit Ballon, and Tête de Faux. I have quite some pictures of these places, but not on file. Will dig them out. If you have any photos of these battlefields, then I would be most interested to see them!

museum - 4

Nice display. The 2 Geb.Div. fought in the colmar pocket. They'd spent over 3 years in the frontlines up on the Murmansk front, fought a tough 3 week battle against a major Soviet offensive followed by a long trip of several thousand kilometers before going straight into the line around Colmar.

It's ironic, in July i was looking around the area the 2 Geb.Div. fought in October '44 and now you've been looking around the area they fought in jan-feb '45....with a few thousand kilometers in between us!

Ces't Bon! If you were outside Colmar (a georgeous town btw) you were very near Holtzwihr the sight of Audie Murphy's "one man stand" that earned him the Medal of Honor.

When I was there several years ago I went to the spot where this happened. It was a moving experience for me knowing what had happened there 60 years earlier.
