Soliciting observations & opinions of those who have handled a variety of repro lids. What good or bad features have you noticed on the different m38 copies? I am interested in function, and appearances at say, ten feet. Trying to obtain a counterfeit to gouge a novice collector is of no interest to me.
I have heard complaints of incorrect shape, flimsy shell, poor quality strap leather, & of course the Chinese front-to-back seam in the liner (which seems to be easily remedied). From what I can see in available pix, the newer Indian/Pakistani copies appear to have the insufficient depth to the liner (they appear to sit perched atop the head, rather than fit down around the skull). What other issues have you observed?
Any product-to-product comparison would be great, as well as single observations of specific good or bad features.
Much obliged,
Matt
