This building is accross the road from where the Chancelry building used to be, it the only building left standing on the southside of Vossstrasse...derelict and riddled with bullet holes.......

Looking at the southbank of the river Spree, just a short bit down from Weidendamm Bridge, showing shrapnel/bullet damage.......

Some wasteground in Berlin.....This is just a few hundred metres North of the Weidendamm bridge. It is called the Tachelles and though fairly derelict many new-age artists base themselves here...

Hi Harry, you went to all the places I did That building in post 31 is really battle scarred. I wonder what it was during the War? There appeared to be a name on the building that had been removed with a chisel?

          Cheers, Ade.

            Ade,

This is what is left of what was, during the war, a very fashionable upmarket shopping mall! It now has a couple of trendy alternative bars, one of which I frequented 13 years ago when I was in the city with 3 buddies! The beer was fantastic and relatively cheap. I was delighted to come accross it again and find it had not changed.......here is Mary, pretending to be completely sober studying the guide book This was taken in cafe Adler at Checkpoint Charlie.....

Here is me, not even trying to pretend! This was taken inside one of the bars in the battlescarred former shopping mall, inside it still retains the battle scars.....

Here is a shot of a stairwell in this building, it still has its stair rail......the walls are bullet market at each landing, but the graffitti disguises it. It looks as though this building was taken room by room, floor by floor......

In the backyard of the old mall, are bits of old planes and stuff, all recycled and used by the artists to form modern sculptures......here is me on a bit of fuselage...

The bombed out buildings act as a canvas for the street artists.........but this has left the city with a legacy of prolific graffitti......

Hi Harry, I was really shocked by all the graffiti. I have been to Germany several times before over the years, but I had never seen anything like this before

                      Cheers, Ade.

More of the waste ground and dereliction........The shopping Mall is on Orienensburgstrasse, which prior to the war was the Jewish quarter. There are some great bars and clubs along this street, enough there to make a long night of it....

                            Hi Harry,

Thanks for sharing your trip pictures. It's really appreciate.

The building you showed on Oraniensburgerstrasse is where I had my Sylvester Party. And the picture on post #2 was my hotel. I didn't know what happended during the war on the Weidendamm bridge and I have found your explanations very interesting.

May I ask you if you took the aerial shoots with the "Luftballon" on Potsdamer Platz ???

Thanks again for the nice pictures. I really love Berlin !
