Prior to WW2, Wetmore had served 4 years as an enlisted Marine Reserve from 1936-39(note Marine Reserve Medal and ribbon). He was also a Merchant Marine employed by The Grace Lines making runs from N. America to S. America. I did not post his Merchant Marine papers. When the war broke out he was able to use his time in the Merchant Marines to get a commission as an Ensign in The Navy Reserve. The USS Crater was made to be a Liberty Ship, but was converted to a Crater class Navy transport. Ensign Wetmore was its Navigator from the day it was commissioned until he was transfered. He had a Navy medical retirement in 1945 as a LT (jg). I found a box of papers at the swap meet that weighed 30 pounds. All of his papers were in that box. After the war he was a Captain for the Grace lines. He stayed connected to his former crew mates at reunions and passed away at the age of 84. On the left is the first paper from the stack and on the right is the last by date.Attached FilesLast edited by p-59a; 07-04-2017, 09:21 PM.
