This is my father Sgt. Mike Urbanitch's story about him and Vietnam. My dad graduated from high school in Tampa, Florida in 1966. From there he volunteered to go to Vietnam for the Marines. After his boot camp at Parris Island he landed in Vietnam in December of 1966. He served with the 7th Marines in 2nd Battalion Echo Company. He was assigned to a 60mm mortar team as well as a rifleman position during some patrols. He ended up participating in two major operations from which his unit received Presidential Unit Citations for, Operation Arizona and Operation Union 2, as well as several search and destroy missions. He did one 13 month tour of Vietnam before being sent stateside in January of 1968, a couple of weeks before the Tet Offensive occurred. Stateside my dad was assigned to riot control at the airport for returning soldiers. He was honorably discharged from the corps in 1972 and to this day he in a marine to the core. He has been my hero my entire life and is the reason I started to collect militaria in the first place. I hope everyone enjoys this post and as usual all comments are welcome.

Wow Beersheba4thLH you must've served with my dad at some point. He's unfortunately missed the past couple of reunions (the last one he went to was the San Antonio reunion) due to health and other family issues that pop up for us from time to time. I really wanted to go to the last reunion with my dad the last time he went but I had school work to do and study so I missed out. I know I would like to meet some of the fellow marines he served with at some point and show off some of the newer photos we developed from the slides my dad had from Vietnam.
