                Italy May 1944 ...

GJR had hard fights in the area of Cassino...
Also on 18.05.1944 was again fought hard

4 days later the wife of Mr. Friedrich got this very hard & sad letter:

(...we have to say that your husband is missing since 18.05.2012, he was wounded as his back (hip), maybe he was captured by American soldiers....)

After long monts of waiting, the wife of Mr. Friedrich got the happy message...

Karl Friedrich survived, he was alive... he was captured by American soldiers on 18.05.1944

For his brave and curageous behavior in the fights in Cassino in May 1944:
Karl Friedrich was awarded with the GERMAN CROSS in GOLD

But there is no official Document for this award...

But you can find him in different German Cross in Gold-lists...

                  Best regards,
                  Koenigstiger

                      Excellent group!

Who cares if there's a formal document to it or not.

The story is way more interesting than a lot of other complete groups with German Cross documents, but no story like this...
