Friedrich Pohl von Pollenburg was born in 1888 and died in 1964 and was Lieutenant in Infantry Regiment 161, wounded hero, German aviation pioneer, Luftwaffe Field Doctor and private physician. After seeing the documents and photos below you too will be surprised to know I found little information published on this hero using the Internet.
Fortunately for us historians, I was able to obtain a substantial amount of photos, documents and medals from Dr. Pohl's next of kin. Over a what seemed like a very long course of time, I was able to convince them not to divide up this grouping and sell individually.
As you will see his story unfolds through his his WWI flight log book, WWI Drivers License, unissued Drivers License from his flight school, WWI pay book, 3rd Reich Ahnenpass, WWII Drivers License, Wehrpass. Also there are 51 photos/postcard photos of him and from his comrades spanning most of pre-WWI, WWI and a few from WWII and post-WWII.
Some comrades, I have not identified. Unfortunately many of the postcard photos were trimmed down and the signature was removed. Although some do remain. The only item to my knowledge I do not have is Dr. Pohl's 1923 wedding photo but was able to have them make a photo copy for me.
I find it significant and it would seem to fill in some gaps on early German aviation and WWI flight training. I hope you find it enjoyable. After I finish posting my photos, if anyone has information that aid in uncovering more about this man, his unit and comrades, I would appreciate it greatly.
First his medals and Insignia
