I bought some wooden coat hangers with wide shoulders to hang my uniform collection in march this year. On recently checking my collection I noticed that my absolutely mint condition Luftwaffe officers greatcoat had a circular hole about 3mm wide right through the shoulder. At first I thought this was a moth attack (despite the garment being stored in plastic garment covers with moth killer satchets in the pockets. On closer investigation I found it was NOT moths. Some kind of insect larva was concealed within the hanger. This had eaten its way out, right through the shoulder of the coat and also through the plastic garment bag. I attach a photo of the hanger What are the chances of this happening? Anybody have any idea what kind of insect could be involved. The holes are much larger than normal woodworm holes which are tiny.
