Best way to clean a sword

I have a sword with some rust stains and spots on it. It is not a particularly valuable sword, but in there something I could get at a local hardware store to clean it up?

Simichrome would be best. Flitz ok but more abrasive. I would not rub hard.

Autosol is a very good product and I use it all of the time.
