    Medals and Badges

    Hello All,

I would like to ask you a question regarding the way you display your medals and badges. Do you use showcases or display frames? Pics are welcome.

    Thanks,

    Richard

Could you show me a picture of the difference of the two? Which do you prefer?

An image of my new display. This is a front-opening, hinged frame intended to be wall-mounted. The items are held in place by self-adhesive velcro dots with the intention of them being removable and replaceable.

You can see one side of the velcro on the reverse of the suspension on the right-most medal with the other side of the velcro just barely visible directly above it.

For badges, I use coin easels/stands that can be bought on eBay in bulk. I think I got 50 of them for around 30 bucks. I also found an acrylic display step on Amazon...I think it was intended for nail polish display, but I found it helped me maximize display room when coupled with the easels. Here's an old pic from a couple years ago I snapped when I was first playing around with it. I use it in a tower type display case...

I have found the coin easels perfect for lots of insignias besides badges, dog tags, etc

For medals with ribbons, I use riker cases. Using some hardware I got from an online framing supply site, I add hangers to the rear (sawtooth for larger cases, D-ring for smaller). I use felt cut to size for the backing, and then pin the medals to the felt. To prevent the weight from the medals themselves straining and eventually tearing through the ribbons, I stitch a few loops around the suspension rings or loops into the felt, so that none of the medal weight is on the medals when hung on the wall, and no holes are placed into the ribbons themselves.

No TR ribboned medal displays, but here are a few from my Marine Corps collection...
