    Cleaning bayonet?

I purchased a Czech (NOT British! ) bayonet yesterday and I would like to clean it. The hilt is sticky and dirty and I don't like it.

I plan on using wood soap (Murphy's Oil Soap) and warm water. I'll use a toothbrush to get at the built up dirt and dry it immediately after getting the gunk off of it.

I am not anticipating any issues. But thought I'd double check.

try a heat gun and rag.

it's probably cosmoline and not sure Murphy's oil soap will remove it.

just don't burn it.. keep the heatgun moving.

I had already cleaned before you replied. I think it turned out well. The sticky is gone.

But if I get something else in need of cleaning I will remember that I can use heat. I hadn't thought of that.

I totally forgot about Cosmoline too! That explains the smell as well. Thank you!

glad it worked out for you!

I've used heat in the past with good results... and the main mess is only sticky rags.
though that's a mess in iteself.
