    Simichrome VS Pre-lim surface cleaner

    Hi Guys,

I am trying to determine which would be best for my situation. I have an SS dagger with nickel fittings that has developed a spot oxidation/patina since I last checked it.. I believe it was from a build up of moisture but cant be sure. the attached image is of the affected spot

Is there anyone here who can offer some feedback as to the difference between simichrome and Pre-lim, and which you would recommend or prefer out of the two?

For those who don't know pre-lim is manfactured by Picreator, the same company who makes Renaissance Wax

    Thanks for any help

Looks like some idiot tested it with acid...and you may not have noticed....nothing will look like that by itself from storage....those are nickled fittings ...they will not rust like that...dont use any simichrome...or anything else...its never gonna change , best leave it as it is...the dagger is likely a dealer item you bought , someone else owned prior...all the more reason to buy vet found daggers only....seems it never ends that people keep asking how to polish and clean up stuff , when it is best left alone, and maybe oiled or coated with vaseline then wiped with a clean t shirt that is now a rag...and never use anythigng with any abrasives....tri flo teflon oil is ok on most things if you don't rub it too much....that spot if the results of being acid tested will always be there. It is what it is,as they now say...some things cannot be changed . I know dealers who are coin guys and still insist on testing items for just a second , and it still are always items that don't even need tested if one is experienced...but as i quote ron white..you still cant fix stupid....with some people who could easily just as a collector before messing with things...

Thanks for the reply juoneen, the dagger wasn't acid tested and came without a blemish as I took some pictures when it first arrived (as I do with all my items) to compare.

I'm not wanting to use simichrome or pre-lim to make it look better. I just want to fix what wasn't there 2 months ago, and what will no doubt continue to develop it not treated appropriately.

My aim is conservation of the piece in the condition it was when it first arrived, which is probably why I'm leaning more towards using pre-lim as it is a tested and used product for professional conservation (which you can read up on the picreactor.co.uk website)

So anyone with experience in either is more than welcome to reply...please

I have pre-lim and it works well, same company who make renaissance wax.
If this fails you can use a silver plating solution, it will give a very good result.

Having used both I recommend, without hesitation, Pre-Lim.
