I was told of a good method to get rid of new spots and soft stain on artefacts. A postcard vendor gave me the hint. If you use a very soft rubber (0) you can securely try takinge off new spots from a range of materials including f.e. postcard edges. I took off verdigris f.e. on a buckle by using some white oil (acid and resin free) and then using the rubber. I believe a rubber is better than a toothpick or likewise.
and I have a question....:
For cleaning purposes I tend to use white oil instead of warm water and a soft brush (even on non emaille medals), gently rub it dry with microfibre cloth then coating it with renwax. I haven´t seen any detrimental effect. Asking the conservationists:`Is there a problem in doing so?´, as I hope/believe it is a very soft method.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts
