oversea hat

I bought recently this nice officers oversea hat. I own a lot of such caps but this was obviously bad stored. Its not soft but hard and stiff. I have never encountered this phenomenon before. Can I anything do to soften the cap? I dont want to run any risk. If its too dangerous I will keep it as it is.

Try washing it in luke warm water with some pH-neutral detergent like Woolite. This will not harm the cap so long as you don't rub or scrub it in the water. Just swish the water around and through the cap.
You should also let it air dry which will take 2 or 3 days.
DO NOT put it on a radiator or any source of direct heat.

thanks, but since I needed some cash and I am more focused on panzer I gave the hat to another forum member. I think the stiff appearance has something to do with the white felt bias material....
